Sebastian Stan, known for his iconic role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is ready to explore new horizons in his acting career. The 43-year-old actor views his time with Marvel as merely the beginning, expressing a strong desire to take on diverse roles that challenge his skills. In a recent interview on Don Saldino’s Stronger Podcast, Stan reflected on his journey and the importance of growth as an artist.

“I have to try to offer something different than before,” Stan emphasized. He highlighted that he has never prioritized one role over another. “The Marvel stuff helped me grow as a person and as an actor. It taught me about relationships, and I had the opportunity to work with people I looked up to,” he said, referencing his collaborations with renowned actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson. Stan expressed gratitude for the sense of belonging he found within the Marvel family, but he firmly believes that it was just the first step in his career.

Embracing New Opportunities

Stan is optimistic about his current trajectory, acknowledging the advantages of pursuing critically acclaimed projects later in life. “I’m lucky that it’s happening in my 40s,” he stated, reflecting on his development as an actor. He noted the impressive achievements of younger actors such as Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler, admitting, “I look at these young guys and think, ‘Wow, where will they be at 40?'”

The actor’s perspective is shaped by his early experiences. Born in Romania, Stan faced challenges in establishing his career in the United States. “There was a significant part of my youth that I had to spend getting Americanized,” he explained. Now, he feels he is finally able to pursue the projects he has always wanted to undertake.

Tackling Controversial Roles

One of Stan’s most ambitious projects to date is his portrayal of Donald Trump in the upcoming film, The Apprentice, set for release in 2024. The film explores Trump’s rise in the business world before his political career. Stan shared insights from his experience on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, where he described the role as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

Stan faced significant pressure before accepting the part, with many advising him against it due to the potential backlash. “They said it might alienate people, that I didn’t look like him, that it was too dangerous,” he recalled. Yet, he views acting as a means to engage with uncomfortable subjects and delve into the complexities of human nature, even in its darkest aspects.

As he continues to evolve as an actor, Sebastian Stan is determined to push boundaries and explore the full spectrum of storytelling. His journey from Marvel superstar to versatile performer is a testament to his commitment to growth and his passion for the craft. The world eagerly anticipates what this talented actor will take on next.
