A new enclosed dog park has opened in the Shire of Harvey.

The Shire of Harvey has officially opened a new dog exercise area at Meriden Park, providing a dedicated space for dogs to play freely. This fully enclosed facility allows dogs to run off-lead, enhancing their recreational opportunities in a safe environment. The park features a drinking fountain, a dog bowl, and accessible pathways, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for both pets and their owners.

The establishment of this dog park was first supported by the council in November 2024, following community feedback on the Meriden Park master plan. The plan, which was officially endorsed in January 2025, includes various enhancements to the park, with the dog park being the second major completion after the skatepark, which opened in April 2024.

Community Benefits and Future Developments

The new dog park is one of over ten designated exercise areas for dogs within the Shire of Harvey. Such initiatives highlight the council’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and fostering community engagement. The park is designed not only for the enjoyment of dogs but also for their owners, who can socialize while their pets play.

In addition to the dog park, the council has plans for further developments in Meriden Park. A fully accessible playground is set to be introduced later this year, featuring a zipline, trampolines, and various other play equipment. Alongside these recreational facilities, the park will also see improvements to parking and restroom amenities, ensuring a more convenient experience for visitors.

As part of the regulations for public spaces, dogs must remain on a leash outside of approved exercise areas, maintaining safety for all park users. The Shire of Harvey continues to prioritize the well-being of both pets and their owners, fostering an inclusive environment for all community members.

The opening of the dog park marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of Meriden Park, reflecting the council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing local recreational facilities.
