Simu Liu is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the highly anticipated film Avengers: Doomsday, marking his first appearance since his role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for sharing the screen with iconic stars he has long admired, describing the experience as a significant milestone in his career.

In an interview with People magazine, Liu stated, “It means everything. It’s such a privilege to have played a character that resonated with so many different people.” He acknowledged the unwavering support from MCU fans, noting that their encouragement has played a pivotal role in advancing his career.

Liu reflected on the absence of his character, Shang-Chi, from other Marvel films since 2021, revealing that he frequently hears from fans who share their disappointment. “You’re not the only one that’s kind of felt that absence,” he remarked. “Somebody tells me in some way, shape or form — I’m not kidding you, I’m not being hyperbolic — every single day of my life and oftentimes multiple times in a day.”

Despite the four years since Shang-Chi‘s release, Liu maintains strong connections with his co-stars. He mentioned the ongoing activity of the “Shang-Chi group text,” emphasizing the unique bond formed during the filming of the original movie. He noted, “It was such a unique experience, what we went through.”

Star-Studded Cast and Significant Returns

The ensemble cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes notable actors such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Letitia Wright (Black Panther). Notably, Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the main villain, Doctor Doom, despite the demise of his character in Avengers: Endgame.

Alongside Liu, the film will feature other MCU stars including Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Winston Duke (M’Baku). The film also pays homage to the legacy of the superhero genre, bringing back actors from the original X-Men series, such as Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto).

Liu described the scale of Avengers: Doomsday as “gargantuan,” highlighting that the production’s magnitude and ambition will be unforgettable. He stated, “[Avengers: Doomsday] is something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.” He attributed his continued success and the opportunities he has received to the impact of Shang-Chi, declaring, “[Shang-Chi has] given me absolutely everything in my life … I would go as far as to say that I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.”

As anticipation builds for the release of Avengers: Doomsday in March 2025, Liu’s return to the MCU not only symbolizes a personal triumph but also represents a moment of collective joy for fans eagerly awaiting his next chapter in the Marvel saga.
