spandau-ballet-s-steve-norman-advocates-for-farewell-tour

Steve Norman, a founding member of the iconic British band Spandau Ballet, has expressed a desire for the group to embark on a “farewell tour.” This initiative aims to deliver a sense of “closure” for both the band and its fans. Norman shared his thoughts in a recent interview, highlighting the emotional significance of such a tour, which he believes would allow the original line-up to unite one last time.

The original members of Spandau Ballet, including Tony Hadley (lead vocals), Martin Kemp (bassist), Gary Kemp (lead guitarist), John Keeble (drummer), and Norman (multi-instrumentalist), have not performed together since 2015. The band previously disbanded in 1990 after a legal dispute over songwriting royalties, only to reform in 2009. Their reunion was short-lived, as Hadley left the group in 2017 due to “circumstances beyond my control,” leading to the introduction of Ross William Wild as his replacement. Following Wild’s departure in 2019, the original members have not collaborated again.

In discussing the potential reunion, Norman stated, “It would be lovely but, quite frankly, I try not to think about (a reunion) because I’ve thought about it for too long over the years.” He emphasized the importance of a farewell tour, saying, “I’ve always wanted Spandau to do a farewell tour. It would be closure—not just for fans because we never split up, but it would be closure for the band.”

Adding a touch of humor to the conversation, Norman mentioned his desire to capture a photo of his bandmates embracing, expressing the sentimental wish to use it at his own funeral. His comments reflect a deep connection to the band’s legacy and the impact it has had on their lives and careers.

As speculation about a potential farewell tour continues, fans remain hopeful that Spandau Ballet’s original line-up may one day take the stage together once more. The band, known for hits like “True” and “Gold,” has left an indelible mark on the music scene, and a final tour could serve as a fitting tribute to their storied career.
