Renowned drummer of the iconic band The Jam, Rick Buckler, left a substantial estate of over £1 million to his family following his death in February 2023 at the age of 69. According to documents obtained by The Sun, Buckler made significant provisions for his wife, Lesley Buckler, whom he married in 1985, and their two children, Jason and Holly.

The probate records reveal that Buckler’s estate totaled £1,035,366, a figure adjusted downwards by £18,000 due to costs, taxes, and fees. The will was officially approved by the High Court last week. Drafted in October 2022, the document indicates that Buckler allocated the majority of his assets to Lesley. Additionally, he expressed a desire for his extensive collection of Jam memorabilia to be shared between Jason and Holly.

In a gesture of remembrance, Buckler also bequeathed smaller amounts to friends and colleagues. This included £1,000 to his brother Peter, £5,000 to Sham 69 singer Tim Scargill, and £1,000 to his friend Ian Gardner. His will also outlined a wish for cremation and interment at Woking Cemetery.

Tributes from Bandmates

Following his passing, Buckler’s former bandmates, Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton, paid heartfelt tributes to him. Weller expressed his shock and sadness, reflecting on their early days rehearsing in his bedroom and the journey they shared. “To all the pubs and clubs we played at as kids, to eventually making a record. What a journey!” he stated. “We went far beyond our dreams and what we made stands the test of time.”

Foxton echoed similar sentiments, stating, “I was shocked and devastated to hear the very sad news today. Rick was a good guy and a great drummer whose innovative drum patterns helped shape our songs.” He extended his thoughts to Lesley and the family during this challenging time.

The Jam, formed in 1972, quickly became a significant presence in the UK music scene. The trio, who were all friends since secondary school, released their debut album, In the City, in 1977. They achieved remarkable success with 18 consecutive top 40 singles, including four number ones and a number one album. Their most notable tracks include Town Called Malice, Going Underground, and Down In The Tube Station At Midnight.

The band disbanded in 1982, after which Weller formed The Style Council, while Buckler joined Time UK. Despite the split, Buckler and Foxton reunited for performances as From The Jam between 2007 and 2009 before he transitioned into music management, a role he held until his untimely death.

Rick Buckler’s legacy as a musician and his contributions to rock music continue to resonate, leaving an indelible mark on fans and fellow artists alike.
