The latest installment of the Gymkhana film series, titled “Aussie Shred,” premiered on December 9, 2025, featuring renowned motorsport athlete Travis Pastrana as he showcases his driving skills in Australia. This film, produced by Hoonigan and Subaru Motorsports USA, promises to be the most adrenaline-fueled entry yet, with Pastrana navigating iconic locations such as the Outback, Sydney Harbour, and Mount Panorama in Bathurst.

The centerpiece of this ambitious project is the Subaru “Brataroo,” a modified version of the classic 1978 Subaru BRAT. Engineered to perform at unprecedented levels, the vehicle boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine that delivers an impressive 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. Its active aerodynamic features set a new standard for Gymkhana vehicles, allowing Pastrana to execute high-speed maneuvers with precision.

Pastrana’s excitement about the Brataroo is palpable. “The Brataroo is hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built,” he noted. “Every part of this car was designed to take the abuse we threw at it while making this film. From hanging two tires off a pier to flying 160 feet across a 10-story deep canyon gap over a road train, to skimming across a deep lake, I scared myself every step of the way.”

The film not only highlights Pastrana’s driving prowess but also features a host of cameos from local motorsport icons. Two-time Dakar Rally champion Toby Price, Subaru WRC driver Chris “Atko” Atkinson, and Nitro Circus BMX riders Ryan Williams, Jaie Toohey, and Will Brown make appearances, adding to the film’s excitement. Additionally, V8 Supercars drivers participated in a rolling drag race against the Brataroo down Mount Panorama’s Conrod Straight, further enhancing the film’s high-octane appeal.

The decision to film in Australia was a long time in the making. Brian Scotto, co-founder of Hoonigan and action director for the project, explained, “Australia had long been at the top of the list of potential Gymkhana film locations. A decade ago, we faced significant challenges due to anti-hoon laws, but this time, we were met with open arms by the Australian government. This combination of unfinished business and Pastrana’s final film in the series made it even more special.”

The visual contrast between Australia’s bustling urban landscapes and its rugged Outback serves as a stunning backdrop for the film, which pays tribute to the legacy of the original Gymkhana films created by Ken Block. Hoonigan acknowledges the contributions of its partners, including Subaru, KMC Wheels, Mercury Marine, and others, in bringing this ambitious project to fruition.

Fans can catch the full premiere of “Aussie Shred” on the Hoonigan YouTube channel. The film is expected to attract millions of viewers, continuing the series’ tradition of pushing the boundaries of motorsport entertainment. With its combination of breathtaking stunts, spectacular scenery, and a star-studded cast, “Aussie Shred” marks a significant milestone in the Gymkhana franchise.
