The Yellowbelly Band is set to electrify the Wilcannia Golf Club this Friday, November 28, 2025, from 18:00 to 22:00. Known for their vibrant performances, the band promises an engaging evening filled with live music. Attendees can look forward to a mix of original songs and covers, with a break for raffles during the event.

From Local Roots to Rocking the Stage

The story of Yellowbelly Band traces back over a decade, originating from the small town of Bourke. Founding members Stephen and Kobie grew up together, influenced by the musical tastes of their parents. Stephen identifies as Ngemba, while Kobie is Bundjalung, and both have been passionate about music since their teenage years.

Their journey took an exciting turn in April 2025 when they had the opportunity to open for renowned artist Fanny Lumsden during her visit to Bourke. With a last-minute need for a drummer, the band reached out to Dwayne, who had not played in eight years. Despite initial hesitations, Dwayne agreed to join, and the band performed without prior practice, marking the beginning of their musical collaboration.

A Growing Community Presence

Since their first gig, Yellowbelly Band has dedicated themselves to regular practice, typically meeting two to three times a week for two to three hours. Their commitment has been evident, as they have performed at various venues across the region, including Eulo, Cobar, Lightning Ridge, and Brewarrina. Just a few weeks ago, they attracted a crowd of 400 to 500 people at a gig in Eulo, showcasing their growing popularity.

The band members span a 30-year age gap, with Stephen and Kobie aged 20 and 21, while Father Oche and Dwayne are 50 and 51. This diverse range in ages has not deterred their musical chemistry; they bond over their shared love for rock music. Dwayne, known for his creative approach, often practices by learning drum parts while tapping on the dashboard of his car, with the drum kit parts drawn out for reference.

As they prepare for their upcoming performance in Wilcannia, the excitement within the band is palpable. Their consistent effort and passion for music have not only strengthened their skills but also fostered a sense of community among their fans.

Those interested in experiencing Yellowbelly Band live should mark their calendars for Friday, November 28. The show promises to offer an unforgettable night of music, camaraderie, and community spirit at the Wilcannia Golf Club.
