Yungblud, the 27-year-old singer known for his unique blend of rock and pop, presented a custom cross to legendary musician Ozzy Osbourne before the farewell concert of Black Sabbath at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. This heartfelt gesture took place as a tribute to Osbourne, who is regarded as one of the most influential figures in rock music.
Heartfelt Gesture at a Historic Moment
The emotional exchange occurred backstage during the concert, where Yungblud expressed the significance of the moment. Reflecting on their history, he recounted how Osbourne had given him a gold cross during the filming of the music video for his song “The Funeral” in 2022. “Ozzy gave me his gold cross and said, ‘I hope this brings you luck,’” Yungblud shared. “I thought, on this monumental moment for him and Sabbath, it was time for me to return the favour and let him know what he and the band mean to me.”
Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, shared a video of the exchange on his Instagram, captioning it: “my f****** hero [bat emoji] (sic).” The post showcased the admiration he holds for Osbourne, highlighting the bond between the two artists.
A Tribute to a Rock Icon
In an interview with The Independent, Yungblud elaborated on his lifelong admiration for Osbourne. “Since I can remember, Ozzy has always been a part of my life,” he said. “I grew up around rock music, and he was a character to me before I even knew anything about him. I remember his hair, I remember his massive mouth, I remember his glasses from when I was three years old.”
Yungblud noted that his family dynamics often mirrored the Osbournes, saying, “If you know me and my family, we’re truly f****** loud – they used to call us The Osbournes.” This connection provided him with a sense of solace, as he recognized the shared qualities of being “out there and crazy.”
Despite their differences in musical style, Yungblud believes he and Osbourne represent similar values. “We’re very similar,” he stated. “Even though we don’t necessarily make the same kind of music, we kind of represent the same thing. Being out there and thinking outside the box is what we’re both known for.”
As Black Sabbath bid farewell to their devoted fans, Yungblud’s tribute serves as a reminder of the profound impact that musicians can have on one another and their audiences. The exchange of gifts between these two artists transcends their differing musical genres, uniting them in a shared passion for rock music and its cultural significance.
