Emirates has announced the next phase of its ambitious retrofit program, set to upgrade a total of 111 aircraft, including 60 A380s and 51 Boeing 777s. The enhancements aim to incorporate a range of innovative cabin products and next-generation technologies, with the rollout commencing in August 2026. As part of its ongoing fleet modernization efforts, Emirates is committed to elevating the passenger experience through cutting-edge in-flight entertainment and enhanced connectivity.
The airline will collaborate closely with industry partners such as Airbus, Safran, Recaro, Panasonic, Starlink, and UUDS to introduce state-of-the-art seating designs and a new onboard lounge on the A380s. Passengers can expect to enjoy Panasonic’s advanced Astrova inflight entertainment system, which will provide a more immersive and engaging travel experience.
Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, emphasized the airline’s dedication to continuous improvement. He stated, “Emirates’ retrofit program is about continuously elevating standards across our entire fleet. Our customers expect an excellent experience every time they fly Emirates, and this investment ensures we deliver on that promise in the years to come.”
The enhancements will significantly upgrade the Business Class offerings on both aircraft models. Emirates will feature new seating inspired by the luxurious leather S Lounge seats from Safran, already available on the A350 fleet. These seats will incorporate various thoughtful details, including wireless charging and customizable in-seat lighting, creating a more private and comfortable environment for travelers.
Premium Economy, the airline’s latest cabin class, will introduce Recaro’s advanced seating technology, designed for both comfort and functionality. Passengers can look forward to spacious, leather seats that offer generous amenities, including integrated charging options and a 13.3-inch entertainment screen. Economy Class will also receive an upgrade with the introduction of the new lightweight Safran Z400 seats, specifically tailored for long-haul operations.
In-flight entertainment will also see a significant boost, as Emirates has selected Panasonic Avionics to enhance its IFE products with the cutting-edge Astrova platform. This upgrade promises breathtaking visual clarity through 4K OLED HDR10+ displays, providing an experience that rivals home cinema systems. The introduction of Spatial Audio will further immerse passengers in a rich sound environment, whether they use Emirates’ premium headsets or connect their own devices via Bluetooth.
Moreover, every seat will come equipped with powerful 67W USB-C charging capabilities, ensuring devices remain charged throughout the journey. The modular design of the entertainment system allows for independent upgrades, keeping pace with evolving technology.
In conjunction with cabin upgrades, Emirates will install fleet-wide Starlink connectivity, enhancing internet access for passengers across both A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. This integration within the retrofit program is aimed at accelerating the delivery of a consistent Emirates experience across its global network.
The retrofit program reflects Emirates’ ongoing commitment to enhancing its products and services. Initially announced in 2021, the program has expanded significantly, with the number of aircraft slated for full refurbishment increasing from 120 to 219 by May 2024. So far, 76 aircraft have been successfully retrofitted, with each A380 requiring approximately 22 days and each Boeing 777 taking around 18 days for refurbishment. The program maintains a steady output, with two newly refurbished aircraft entering service each month to elevate the travel experience for passengers worldwide.
As Emirates continues to innovate and enhance its fleet, the airline remains focused on delivering exceptional experiences that align with evolving passenger expectations.
