The Kamprad Family Foundation has announced a significant new partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) that will enhance training programs focused on providing healthcare in challenging environments. This collaboration, which will span the next three years, aims to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to respond effectively to humanitarian disasters and health crises both locally and globally.

The funding will support the ongoing educational initiatives of the Centre for Health Crises and the research group Global Disaster Medicine. This initiative builds upon previous contributions from the Kamprad Family Foundation, which enabled the creation of specialized courses such as Anaesthesia and critical care with limited resources and Health assistance in humanitarian crises. With this new funding, these courses will be offered annually, ensuring that healthcare workers are adequately prepared for the realities of their roles in emergency settings.

“Our collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières is extremely valuable,” stated Johan von Schreeb, research group leader and director of the Centre for Health Crises. “Through joint efforts and with the support of the Kamprad Family Foundation, we can prepare outgoing staff for the realities of humanitarian crises and low-resource environments. At the same time, we help build a foundation of knowledge and experience that strengthens Sweden’s preparedness for future health crises.”

The two courses target healthcare professionals preparing for assignments with MSF. The course on anaesthesia and critical care is tailored specifically for anaesthesiologists and nurses, while the health assistance course serves as an introduction for all healthcare workers engaged in disaster response.

This initiative comes at a critical time as the demand for skilled healthcare professionals in disaster and crisis situations continues to rise. With the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, conflict, and health emergencies, training programs like these play a vital role in enhancing global health responses.

The Kamprad Family Foundation’s commitment to supporting this educational endeavor reflects a broader vision of improving healthcare access in resource-limited settings. By focusing on training that meets identified needs, the partnership aims to ensure that healthcare workers are equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also practical tools that can make a significant difference in the field.

As the partnership unfolds over the next three years, both organisations are poised to create a lasting impact on the training of healthcare professionals, ultimately benefiting communities in need across the globe.
