L’Oréal has introduced a groundbreaking LED face mask at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, promising to redefine the beauty technology landscape. This ultra-thin, flexible mask utilizes two wavelengths of light to target signs of aging, while a smaller under-eye version is also in development. The company aims to provide consumers with a more comfortable and effective skincare solution.
The new LED mask features a re-engineered design that integrates advanced technology into a pliable silicone material, making it lightweight and easy to wear. Guive Balooch, Global Vice President of Tech and Open Innovation at L’Oréal Groupe, highlighted the need for innovation in the current LED mask market during a demonstration at the event. According to Balooch, existing options either consist of high-powered LEDs encased in bulky designs or thinner masks that lack effectiveness.
“We wanted to create something that was inspired by a sheet mask,” Balooch said. “Something that could be thin, pliable, flexible, but could work as well as the masks that are at the highest level, technically. This is the solution.”
The internal microcircuit was developed in collaboration with iSMART, a UK-based startup recognized for its expertise in LED device innovation. The mask is designed to emit both red light (630 nm) and near-infrared light (830 nm), each wavelength addressing different skin concerns. It aims to reduce fine lines, firm and smooth the skin, and improve overall skin tone.
Convenient Features Enhance User Experience
The LED mask also includes several user-friendly features. It operates on timed sessions of 10 minutes, which is the recommended duration for daily use. The mask is cordless, powered by a lightweight battery pack that charges via USB-C, ensuring convenience for users.
In addition to the full-face mask, L’Oréal showcased two smaller under-eye versions. These mini masks utilize the same microcircuit technology and are encased in the same comfortable silicone material. The under-eye masks come with an innovative charging case that uses induction charging, resembling a compact mirror.
Balooch explained that users could comfortably lie down with the mini pads in place. For those seeking a more active option, L’Oréal is developing adhesive pads that would allow users to move around while wearing them. These hypoallergenic pads can be used approximately ten times each, although Balooch acknowledged that they are not ideal for every situation. The team is also exploring localized serums to enhance the adhesion of the pads without relying solely on adhesives.
Anticipated Launch in 2027
Currently, both the full-face mask and the under-eye versions are in prototype stages, with plans for a market launch set for 2027. L’Oréal’s innovative approach has the potential to disrupt the beauty technology sector, offering consumers a new way to address aging skin concerns effectively and comfortably.
As L’Oréal continues to push the boundaries of beauty technology, industry watchers will be keen to see how this new product impacts the market when it becomes available. The CES 2026 reveal marks an exciting moment for the company and for consumers eager for advanced skincare solutions.
