SingHealth has officially opened the first MRI centre located outside a hospital campus at Dunearn Village, marking a significant expansion of its diagnostic imaging services into the community. This new facility, inaugurated on February 14, 2026, is the result of a collaboration with United Imaging Healthcare, a global leader in AI-powered medical imaging solutions.
The centre introduces an innovative operational model aimed at increasing imaging capacity while enhancing both patient experience and workflow efficiency. Fully licensed and operated by RADSC SGH, the facility features three MRI systems from United Imaging, including two uMR Omega units and one uMR 680. The uMR Omega is particularly noteworthy as it boasts the world’s first ultra-wide 75 cm bore, designed to improve patient comfort by accommodating a broader range of body types and reducing anxiety during procedures.
The collaboration began in April 2025 and included the signing of a Reference Site Agreement on November 21, 2025. The design and workflow innovations at the centre aim to enhance both patient and staff experiences. Features such as mobile registration and in-app payment through the Health Buddy application, recyclable patient gowns, and private sub-waiting pods have been implemented to streamline the visit process and reduce waiting times.
In addition, the centre has expanded the roles of Patient Support Associates and credentialed nurses, enhancing operational flexibility. Safety measures include a door-frame metallic detector for ergonomic screening and scan cohorting strategies to optimise resource use. A multi-dosing injector system was also installed to minimise contrast waste, aligning with sustainability goals.
Professor Andrew Tan, Chairman of Radiological Sciences at SingHealth, stated, “The new SingHealth MRI Centre reflects our continuous commitment to person-centred care and environmental stewardship.” He emphasized that the partnership with United Imaging Healthcare allows them to elevate the standards for diagnostic imaging while prioritising patient experience.
Jusong Xia, PhD, President of International Business at United Imaging Healthcare, highlighted the shared objectives of the collaboration. “This initiative reflects a commitment to expanding access to advanced medical imaging through intelligent technology,” he noted. By integrating AI-powered MRI solutions into community settings, the partnership aims to enhance clinical workflows and provide high-quality diagnostic services to patients across Singapore and the broader Southeast Asia region.
The opening of the MRI centre at Dunearn Village significantly increases system-wide capacity and serves as a pilot for scalable community-based diagnostic imaging. This collaboration between SingHealth and United Imaging Healthcare is poised to make advanced imaging services more accessible to the community, ensuring that patients receive timely and efficient care.
