albanese-s-labor-party-sees-surge-in-support-post-election-1

Support for the Labor Party under Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has surged following the recent election, with polling indicating a significant rise in voter approval. According to the latest Resolve Political Monitor, Labor’s support has climbed to 37 percent, marking its highest level since just before the Voice referendum in October 2023. This increase reflects a two-point rise over the past month and a gain of 2.5 points compared to the party’s results during the May election.

The Coalition, led by Sussan Ley, has maintained its primary vote at 29 percent, while the Greens remain steady at 12 percent. Notably, support for the One Nation party has increased to 9 percent, nearly three points higher than its federal election result. The poll, which surveyed 1,800 people, indicates that Labor is gaining traction primarily at the expense of minor parties.

On a two-party preferred basis, Labor has widened its lead over the Coalition to 59-41, which is the strongest result for the party since April 2023. Should this trend continue in a national election, Labor could potentially expand its representation, increasing from the 94 seats won in the last federal election to include more Coalition-held electorates such as Longman in Queensland, La Trobe in Victoria, and Forrest in Western Australia.

Jim Reed, director of Resolve Strategic, commented on the poll’s findings, stating that Labor is “sitting pretty” with its enhanced primary and two-party preferred vote. While the Coalition has not lost further ground, Reed noted that they have yet to make any significant gains. Despite Labor’s overall positive showing, Albanese faces ongoing challenges on a personal level, while Ley’s appeal continues to resonate with voters.

Ley has emerged as the most likable member of parliament according to voter feedback, indicating a strong personal rapport with the electorate. Her deputy, Ted O’Brien, is also gaining recognition as a valuable asset for the Coalition.

As Albanese’s government continues to focus on key issues, including economic recovery and social policies, voters appear to be responding positively to Labor’s agenda. With public sentiment shifting in favor of Labor, the political landscape is evolving, and the upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether this support translates into electoral success.
