The second Innovative Industries of the Future (IIF) event series has been officially launched by Stephen Dawson, the Regional Development and Science and Innovation Minister. This initiative is designed to generate momentum leading up to a major conference scheduled for October 27-28, 2026, in Bunbury, Western Australia.
The IIF series aims to explore the emerging trends and technologies that will shape the future of industries and jobs in the region. Through a collaboration between the City of Bunbury and the South West Development Commission, the city will serve as a vital hub for discussions focused on innovative industries.
The upcoming IIF conference follows a successful inaugural event held in November 2024, which examined global trends and future industries that influence economic growth and job creation. Key topics included advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and international partnerships. The event attracted a range of participants, including government leaders, international delegates, investors, entrepreneurs, and academics, all of whom engaged in meaningful discussions about the pathway to achieving net zero emissions.
Given the strong interest from stakeholders in continuing this initiative, plans are underway for IIF to return in 2026. Organizations and individuals eager to participate can now submit expressions of interest through the IIF conference website at iifconference.com.au.
In his remarks, Minister Dawson emphasized the importance of regional innovation: “Innovation is not just taking place in the metro area; we have innovative and entrepreneurial communities and businesses across regional WA. They are leading the way in diversifying our economy and job creation.”
Minister Dawson also highlighted the significance of hosting such a major conference in regional areas. He noted that it brings together innovation and regional development, showcasing the possibilities that exist outside urban centers.
Echoing this sentiment, Don Punch, the South West Minister, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded format of the IIF series returning to Bunbury. “What began as a single conference in 2024 has grown into a program that highlights opportunities for industry and showcases everything Bunbury and the wider South West region has to offer,” he stated.
The IIF series not only fosters connections between industry leaders and local communities but also contributes to the local economy. The influx of attendees benefits venues, accommodation providers, and businesses throughout the region, ensuring that the impact of the conference is felt widely.
As excitement builds for the next IIF event, the focus will remain on addressing vital industry topics and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. The 2026 conference promises to be another pivotal moment for innovation in Western Australia, paving the way for future growth and development in regional economies.
