construction-begins-on-51-million-primary-school-in-banksia-grove

Early construction work has commenced on the new primary school in Banksia Grove, named Banksia Grove West Primary School. This institution is set to accommodate 540 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with additional facilities designed for approximately 50 students in the education support program. The total investment in this project amounts to $51 million and aims to alleviate enrolment pressures faced by Grandis Primary School and other nearby schools in this rapidly growing area, located north-east of Perth.

The design includes two double-storey classroom blocks and a single-storey building dedicated to education support classrooms, as well as science and art facilities. An administration building, library, staff room block, and a covered assembly area—which will feature a music room and canteen—are also integral components of the new school. Additionally, a dedicated kindergarten and pre-primary classroom block will be established, complete with a specialized play space. An education support centre will provide classrooms, staff areas, a therapy room, sensory room, and a designated area for bus drop-off.

External enhancements will encompass car parking facilities, shade shelters, bike parking, and hard courts. The project has been designed by Carabiner Architects Pty Ltd, while the construction contract has been awarded to Universal Constructions Pty Ltd.

Investment in Education Infrastructure

This initiative is part of the Cook Government’s substantial investment in education infrastructure, which has exceeded $5.4 billion since 2017. According to Sabine Winton, the Education Minister, “The Cook Government is committed to delivering quality education infrastructure in fast-growing suburbs such as Banksia Grove.”

Minister Winton expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress, stating, “I’m pleased that works are already underway on this fantastic new school that will benefit families and future students in the area.” As both the Education Minister and the local Member for Wanneroo, Winton emphasized the importance of having schools close to homes and providing students with modern learning environments.

The establishment of Banksia Grove West Primary School is expected to significantly enhance educational opportunities for local families. With construction now in progress, the community looks forward to the completion of this vital facility, which promises to support the educational needs of a growing population.
