Kirk, aged 31 and known for his strong ties to former President Donald Trump, was addressing a crowd of approximately 3,000 people during his talk titled “Prove Me Wrong.” Witnesses reported that the shooting occurred as Kirk responded to an audience member’s question about mass shootings. The bullet struck him in the neck, causing chaos in the audience as attendees fled the scene in panic.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox characterized the incident as a political assassination, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Investigators revealed that the shooter had arrived on campus shortly before the event commenced, utilizing security camera footage to piece together the sequence of events.
