Police in New South Wales are responding to growing concerns surrounding a potential violent event, referred to as a “bashing day,” scheduled for December 27, 2025. This warning follows a recent shooting incident in Bondi that has heightened tensions in the community. A concerning social media post promoting the event has circulated widely, particularly on Snapchat, inciting fears of retribution against individuals of Middle Eastern descent.

The post proclaims: “WE RIOT. WOG/MIDDLE EASTERN BASHING DAY. SATURDAY 27TH DECEMBER 2025. SPREAD THE WORD AUSTRALIA! STAND THE F**K UP.” In light of this, New South Wales Police have confirmed their awareness of the situation. In an official statement, they mentioned, “Police are aware of the social media posts. We do not have any further info.”

Government Response to Potential Violence

On Monday, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns condemned the planned event, asserting that anyone who participates will face serious legal consequences. “There will be no tolerance for any kind of retribution, or some kind of vindictive counterassault on anyone in our community,” he stated firmly. He characterized the situation as a “horrible event,” emphasizing the need to maintain law and order. “The last thing we need is a descent into vindictive violence. We won’t tolerate it in New South Wales,” he added.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Laydon also addressed the public, urging calm and warning against any violent intentions. “If people think they’re going to engage in violence, they’re wrong,” he said. “The police will be there, the police will take appropriate action, and I want to make that really clear – calm is what is required at the moment. Retribution is inappropriate.”

Community Reaction and Concerns

Local residents have expressed their alarm on social media, fearing a repeat of the infamous 2005 Cronulla riots, which were marked by racial violence. One community member shared their shock on the “Everything Sutherland Shire” page, urging individuals of Middle Eastern background to prioritize their safety. “To anyone of Middle Eastern background living in the Shire: please stay safe and prioritize your wellbeing. You belong here, and you should not have to feel afraid because of hatred like this,” the message read.

As the date approaches, the community remains on high alert, and authorities are prepared to take decisive action to prevent any outbreak of violence. The situation serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges surrounding social cohesion and public safety in diverse communities.
