The Limestone Coast Region will soon welcome a new leader as Superintendent Trent Cox has been appointed Officer in Charge of the area’s police personnel. A spokesperson from the South Australia Police (SAPOL) confirmed that Supt Cox will commence his duties in the community in the coming weeks.
Supt Cox takes over from Supt Cheryl Jones, who has held the position since 2023 and made history as the first female to serve in the Mount Gambier-based role. Supt Jones has been instrumental in leading initiatives within the region, paving the way for future leadership in the police force.
With a career spanning over 34 years, Supt Cox has dedicated nearly half of his time as a commissioned officer. His extensive experience includes overseeing critical units such as the Special Crimes Investigation Branch, the Family and Domestic Violence Unit, and the Protective Security Services Branch. He has also managed the Media and Public Engagement Branch, highlighting his multifaceted expertise in police operations.
As Supt Cox prepares to transition into his new role, Senior Sergeant First Class Nick Patterson is currently serving as Acting Superintendent of the Limestone Coast Local Service Area. Sergeant Patterson has been in charge of Mount Gambier Police for the past five years and has nearly two decades of service in the region, with postings at the Beachport and Millicent stations.
This leadership change represents a significant moment for the Limestone Coast police force, as it continues to adapt and evolve under new guidance. The incoming Superintendent’s diverse background and leadership experience will be crucial as he addresses the challenges and priorities facing the community.
The community and local stakeholders look forward to Supt Cox’s engagement and the initiatives he will implement. His appointment signals continued commitment to enhancing public safety and community relations in the Limestone Coast Region.
