wattle-range-council-launches-community-bbq-series-to-engage-residents

The Wattle Range Council is embarking on a community engagement initiative by hosting a series of BBQ and Chat events across 14 towns. These gatherings aim to foster dialogue between council members and local residents, providing a platform for community feedback and discussion. The first event will take place in Tantanoola on November 25, with subsequent visits scheduled monthly to various towns within the council area.

Acting CEO Paul Duka emphasized the importance of these events, stating they represent an opportunity for the council to listen to the residents. Each gathering will feature a free barbecue, a short presentation from elected officials and staff, and a chance for attendees to ask questions about local issues. “Over the past few years, we’ve hosted 14 Community Vision Sessions across Wattle Range,” Duka noted. “These sessions have been a valuable opportunity for the council to connect with our townships and have meaningful conversations about local matters in each community.”

The events will address specific topics pertinent to each town, such as coastal erosion concerns in Southend and Beachport, and shop trading hours in Millicent. Duka underscored that each session is designed to gather community input on various council initiatives and to ensure that residents’ voices are heard. “Every township in our region has its own character and priorities,” he added.

In addition to focusing on local issues, the council will provide updates on broader initiatives and highlight upcoming community consultations. Residents will learn about multiple ways to engage with the council, share ideas, and stay informed about local decisions.

Mayor Des Noll highlighted the significance of these events in building stronger relationships between the council and the communities it serves. “We want to be out there, talking face to face with residents, hearing what’s important to them, all while enjoying a sausage in bread with neighbours,” Noll stated.

The full calendar of town visits is available under the Community Conversations section on the council’s website. Residents are encouraged to attend, meet the team, ask questions, and share their perspectives, reinforcing the council’s commitment to community engagement.
