
Cornell Cinema will commemorate the centenary of the silent film “The Phantom of the Opera” with a live musical performance by the acclaimed ensemble, The Invincible Czars. The event is scheduled for October 24 at 7 p.m. in Sage Chapel in Ithaca. Attendees are required to purchase tickets online prior to the event, with special pricing applicable.
This screening promises to reinvigorate the classic horror film through the band’s distinctive blend of eclectic instrumentation and innovative arrangements. “Our annual Sage Chapel screening is a highlight of the Halloween season in Ithaca. The Invincible Czars have garnered recognition for their ability to create engaging and original scores that enhance the emotional depth and narrative complexity of silent films. Since their inception in 2006, the band has performed live soundtracks for silent films at the Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas. They have toured extensively, including past performances at Cornell Cinema, where they accompanied “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” in 2023 and “Nosferatu” in 2022 with dynamic original scores.
