New research has validated that Jungbunzlauer’s tricalcium citrate (TCC TB) significantly enhances the efficiency and quality of tablet production in both pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors. The findings, announced on October 29, 2025, in Basel, Switzerland, stem from a collaboration with Professor Karl Wagner from the University of Bonn. This partnership highlights Jungbunzlauer’s dedication to scientific rigor and commitment to innovation in ingredient development.
According to Markus Gerhart, Senior Director Category Lead Minerals & Solutions at Jungbunzlauer, the research confirms that TCC TB offers reliable performance in direct compression processes. This method is increasingly preferred for its efficiency, particularly for sensitive ingredients that require excipients capable of exceptional flow and compactibility. Gerhart remarked, “Through validated research, we’re proud to demonstrate that our TCC TB delivers reliable performance in direct compression, helping our customers achieve efficiency, quality, and confidence.”
The study results emphasize that Jungbunzlauer’s TCC TB exhibits outstanding flowability, robust tablet strength at low compression force, and rapid disintegration. These characteristics are particularly beneficial for challenging formulations, including minitablets and moisture-sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
TCC TB is produced through the complete neutralisation of citric acid with a high-purity calcium source, ensuring it is certified vegan, allergen-free, and non-GMO. The ingredient complies with various international standards, including USP, FCC, and EU regulations. These certifications further underline its suitability for diverse applications within the industry.
The findings will be showcased at the CPHI Global event taking place at Messe Frankfurt from October 28 to 30, 2025. Attendees are encouraged to visit Jungbunzlauer at Hall 8, Booth Q55, to discuss the research data and explore how TCC TB can be integrated into their formulations.
