Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown will be released on $25,000 bail and will wear a GPS ankle monitor as he faces a charge of attempted murder in Florida. This decision came from Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer during a bond hearing held on Wednesday. The 37-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree charge, which could result in a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine reaching $10,000 if he is convicted.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, stated that Brown will return to his residence in Broward County, Florida, as the legal proceedings unfold. He emphasized that Brown no longer possesses a passport and intends to comply fully with the court’s requirements. “I look forward to working with him zealously on this case,” Eiglarsh remarked to Judge Glazer during the hearing.

The bond hearing saw Brown appear via video link, wearing a red jail shirt and responding only to the judge’s questions. Prosecutors had argued for pretrial detention, citing Brown’s status as a former professional athlete and the potential risk of him fleeing. According to an arrest warrant, Brown allegedly confronted a security staff member after a celebrity boxing match in Miami on May 16, 2023. He is accused of seizing a handgun and firing two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man he had previously fought with. Reports indicate that one bullet grazed Nantambu’s neck.

During the hearing, Eiglarsh contended that the details in the affidavit are inaccurate, asserting that Brown used his own personal firearm and did not aim at anyone. “It was my client’s own gun,” Eiglarsh stated, suggesting that the situation may have been misunderstood.

Prior to this incident, Brown had been residing in Dubai for several months, as indicated by his social media activity. Following the altercation, he described the events as a defensive action against multiple assailants attempting to steal his jewelry and inflict harm on him. “He didn’t flee to Dubai,” Eiglarsh emphasized. “He always had a desire and intention to answer this case.”

Brown’s professional career spanned 12 years in the NFL, where he was noted as an All-Pro wide receiver. Although he last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, the majority of his achievements were with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Over his career, he recorded 928 receptions for over 12,000 yards and scored a total of 88 touchdowns, including those from punt returns and passing.

As Brown navigates this serious legal challenge, the public and media will likely keep a close eye on the developments of his case and the implications it may have on his life and career.
