Caitlin Clark, the star player for the Indiana Fever, announced her long-awaited signature sneaker during an appearance on the “New Heights” podcast with NFL players Jason and Travis Kelce. The shoe is set to debut in spring 2024.
Clark revealed that the journey to create her signature shoe began during her senior season at the University of Iowa in 2024. She shared her excitement about the design process, which balances uniqueness with personal comfort. “It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do,” she stated. “The most challenging part of it is you want it to be unique, but at the same time, I have to be comfortable wearing it.”
She expressed enthusiasm for the shoe’s colorways, hinting at a special edition inspired by the Kansas City Chiefs. Clark, a lifelong fan of the team, suggested that NFL coach Andy Reid might even wear the shoe during games.
Clark’s collaboration with Nike has already generated buzz, particularly with a commercial featuring the Kelce brothers and the tagline “From Anywhere.” This advertisement will serve as a precursor to the shoe’s launch, heightening anticipation among fans and sneaker enthusiasts alike.
Reflecting on Basketball and Future Goals
During the podcast, Clark also reflected on her recent experience at the USA Basketball camp held at Duke University from December 12 to 14. After a challenging WNBA season where she played only 13 games due to injuries, she relished the opportunity to train alongside some of the world’s top players. “It kind of kicks off the next cycle, preparing for the Olympics,” Clark noted, adding, “Hopefully, I’m on the team for that, and obviously my goal is to be on the Olympic team for 2028.”
While the podcast did not address the ongoing negotiations between the WNBA and the players’ association regarding the collective bargaining agreement, Clark and the Kelce brothers engaged in a lively discussion about fantasy football and the upcoming NFL playoffs.
Clark humorously mentioned that finishing above last place in her fantasy league was her primary goal this season. With the Chiefs missing the postseason, she expressed no strong preference among the playoff teams. “I’m a Drake Maye fan; I think he’s been incredible,” she said of the New England quarterback. “I’ll probably be pulling for the Patriots. The Rams are really good, too.”
As Caitlin Clark prepares for the launch of her signature shoe and looks ahead to her athletic goals, her presence in both basketball and the broader sports community continues to grow.
