Trainer Gerald Ryan is optimistic as he prepares for the upcoming race at Randwick, where his three-year-old filly, Diddle Dumpling, aims to secure her third consecutive victory. Set to compete in a 1300m benchmark 72 handicap for three-year-olds on the last Saturday of the 2024-25 season, Diddle Dumpling is looking to prove her capability in higher-stakes races.
Diddle Dumpling, a filly sired by Deep Field, will attempt to replicate her success from her last outing on July 5, 2024, at Rosehill, where she won by a length under jockey Tim Clark. This time, she will carry the same weight of 56 kilograms due to the apprentice claim from Will Stanley. Starting from the inside gate, she will need to navigate her way from the ninth position, facing a slightly tougher field than her previous race.
“It’s probably a tad harder compared to what she was against last time,” Ryan commented regarding Diddle Dumpling’s upcoming challenge, where she is currently listed as a $6.50 chance with Sportsbet. Despite her previous struggles, including one win from eleven starts and three unplaced efforts at stakes level, Ryan remains confident in her potential.
“She’s a nice filly and we’re happy with her. She’s done well since her last start,” he noted. Ryan has been particularly impressed with Will Stanley’s recent performances, stating, “He seems to be rating leaders all right.” The trainer emphasizes the importance of Stanley’s ability to manage Diddle Dumpling’s pace during the race.
Diddle Dumpling’s previous campaign showed promise, and Ryan hopes to see her mature into a serious contender in the four-year-old ranks. With her recent performances indicating steady improvement, the anticipation builds as she prepares to take on the challenge at Randwick.
