Hume City FC has taken significant steps to enhance its roster ahead of the 2024 National Premier League (NPL) season. In recent weeks, the club has secured the signings of four talented players, aiming to strengthen their competitiveness in the upcoming campaign.
Taylor Schrijvers, a 28-year-old defender from New Zealand, has joined Hume City on a multi-year contract. Known for his extensive experience in New Zealand’s top leagues, Schrijvers expressed enthusiasm about joining the club. “I’m really excited to get started at Hume City FC. It’s a big club and I’m really happy to be here,” he stated. Schrijvers emphasized his desire to contribute to the team’s success, noting, “Hume has consistently been a top-six side, and I want to be part of a team pushing for finals football and competing for silverware.”
Another promising addition is Aiki Tsukamoto, a young midfielder who has joined from the Eastern Lions. Tsukamoto has a strong development background with the A-League club Perth Glory. He acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, “It’s a great challenge for me and I want to prove myself at this level.” Tsukamoto’s ambition aligns with Hume City’s aspirations, as he remarked, “With the squad we have, I think we can win. If I can play a part in that success, I’ll be very happy.”
John Paikopoulos, also a product of the A-League pathway, is another new signing, coming from the youth system of Melbourne Victory. His recent NPL debut shows his potential and eagerness to grow within the established structure at Hume City. “Signing with Hume City FC is a big deal for me as I am coming to an established and developed club,” Paikopoulos shared. He looks forward to working with his new teammates, stating, “Nick Hegarty and all the boys here are very determined to win and play well together.”
The club also welcomed Moonib Adus, a player with a promising track record from the Newcastle Jets youth team. Adus made his senior debut in 2023 and has spent the past season with the Oakleigh Cannons. “I’ve been wanting to sign with this club for a while now,” he said, highlighting a shared vision with Hume City’s style of play. “The way Hegs (Nick Hegarty) wants to play coincides with my playing style, while I also really like the pitch as its large size suits my style.”
With these strategic signings, Hume City FC aims to build a formidable squad that can contend for titles in the upcoming NPL season. As the team prepares for the challenges ahead, the combination of youth and experience among its new players is expected to play a crucial role in achieving their objectives.
