Former wide receiver Isaiah Bond will not face any criminal charges following a sexual assault investigation, as confirmed by Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis on Thursday. A grand jury returned a “no bill” verdict regarding the allegations, concluding the criminal proceedings against Bond.
In a statement, Willis noted, “After reviewing all the evidence presented, a Collin County grand jury returned a ‘no bill’ in the sexual assault charge involving Isaiah Bond, meaning no indictment will be issued.” His announcement marks the end of a legal saga that began when Bond was arrested in April 2024 on an outstanding warrant.
Shortly after the news broke, Bond expressed his gratitude towards the Cleveland Browns for their support, stating his intention to sign with the team. “I’m grateful for the decision of the prosecutor and the courts not to pursue charges,” he said in a statement. He emphasized his determination to justify the trust placed in him by the Browns’ organization and his supporters.
Despite Bond’s optimistic statements, sources reported to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that a formal agreement between Bond and the Browns has yet to be finalized. Bond’s legal troubles began when he was detained in April and subsequently released from Collin County jail after posting bail of $25,000. Following his release, Bond took to social media to assert his innocence.
In a notable turn of events, Bond has filed a lawsuit against the woman who accused him, claiming the sexual encounter was consensual. His legal team is pursuing a defamation claim in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Bond was considered a promising talent heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, but his arrest resulted in him going undrafted. During his single season at the University of Texas, he recorded 34 receptions for 540 yards and five touchdowns. Prior to his time at Texas, Bond spent two seasons at Alabama, where he caught 65 passes for 888 yards and five touchdowns.
As Bond looks to the future, the resolution of his legal issues may pave the way for his NFL career to continue with the Browns, provided that a contract is established.
