CINCINNATI – Joe Burrow showcased his recovery by participating fully in practice for the second consecutive day, raising hopes for his return to the Cincinnati Bengals’ lineup. The star quarterback took all of the team’s snaps on Thursday, as detailed in the injury report, signaling a potential comeback for the pivotal game against the New England Patriots on November 12, 2023.

During the media-access portion of practice, Burrow was seen taking snaps with starting center Ted Karras. His performance included being the first quarterback to throw during position drills, even as veteran quarterback Joe Flacco participated following a brief absence due to a shoulder injury. Burrow remains on injured reserve but has made significant strides in his recovery from a turf toe injury sustained in Week 2.

Wide receiver Tee Higgins commented on Burrow’s impressive form, noting a moment of connection during practice. “I don’t know if that was a good or bad, but I assumed good,” Higgins said, referring to a glance Burrow gave him. He further emphasized Burrow’s readiness: “Joe’s been looking outstanding, man. He’s slinging it deep, short routes. Everything’s been pretty good.”

After undergoing successful surgery, Burrow had initially targeted a Thanksgiving return for his first game back. However, his recent practice participation indicates he might be ready even sooner. On November 10, 2023, Burrow was a full participant at practice for the first time since the Bengals opened his 21-day window for return.

Head coach Zac Taylor acknowledged the positive developments but remained cautious about making a definitive statement regarding Burrow’s availability. “I’m not there yet,” Taylor said in an interview with radio station WLW. “One day at practice isn’t going to lead to that decision yet. We’ll use the time we have at our disposal and come with the best decision we can.” He is scheduled to address reporters following Friday’s practice.

The Bengals, currently with a record of 3-7, are looking to break a three-game losing streak and end an eight-game losing streak against the Patriots, who sit at 9-2. If Burrow plays, it will mark his second consecutive year returning from injury to face New England at home. Last season, Cincinnati lost to the Patriots in the 2024 season opener, which was Burrow’s first game back after suffering a season-ending wrist injury in 2023.

Teammates have consistently stressed the importance of patience during Burrow’s recovery process, emphasizing the need for him to be fully healthy before returning to the field. Higgins reiterated this sentiment, saying, “He needs to take as much time as he needs, but I mean, he looks good. If he’s ready, then I’m ready. Take as much time as you need to get back to 100 percent, which I think he is [at] now.”

As the Bengals prepare for their clash with the Patriots, all eyes remain on Burrow’s status as he inches closer to a potential return.
