The Keilor Sports Club has inaugurated its newly renovated clubrooms, marking a significant milestone for the community. The official opening took place on October 24, 2024, and was attended by notable figures including Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, Brimbank Mayor Thuy Dang, local councillors, and club members.
During the ceremony, club president Hayden Kelly expressed enthusiasm about the facility’s impact on the community. “The place is being used a lot more than it used to be, that’s for sure,” Mr. Kelly stated. He noted a noticeable increase in attendance at club events and activities since the reopening. Membership for life activities has surged by 10 to 15 percent, and functions for both the football and cricket clubs are attracting larger crowds.
The renovation project, which began in October 2024, was a collaborative effort involving the club, the local community, Brimbank Council, Melbourne Airport, and the state government. The work was completed within nine months, with the clubrooms opening for use in July 2024.
While initial estimates of the project’s costs were around $1.8 million, Mr. Kelly clarified that community support significantly reduced expenses. Through various donations, including materials and labor, the actual financial contribution from the community was between $800,000 and $900,000. Consequently, the total cost of the project is closer to $2.6 million, encompassing all contributions.
Mr. Kelly extended his “heartfelt thanks” to community members for their dedication and effort, as well as to the project’s funding partners. The clubroom renovations not only enhance the facilities but also foster a greater sense of community engagement, setting the stage for future growth and collaboration.
