In a remarkable display of offensive prowess, the No. 5 LSU Tigers achieved an NCAA record by scoring 100 points for the seventh consecutive game, defeating Marist College 113-53 in the Reef Division semifinal of the Paradise Jam tournament on November 17, 2023. This victory surpasses the previous record of six straight 100-point games set by the 1982 Louisiana Tech team, which was coached by Kim Mulkey, the current head coach of LSU.

LSU’s impressive performance improves their season record to 7-0. The Tigers’ scoring streak has generated excitement as they aim for another NCAA championship title, following their victory in 2023. The historical significance of this achievement is underscored by the fact that Mulkey was not only a former All-American point guard during her time at Louisiana Tech but also led LSU to their recent championship victory.

Dominant Team Performance

A total of seven players reached double figures in scoring for LSU, demonstrating the team’s depth and versatility. Leading the charge was ZaKiyah Johnson, who contributed 19 points. Not far behind, reserve player Kate Koval scored 17 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds, showcasing her all-around game. Both Flau’Jae Johnson and Amiya Joyner added 16 points each, further enhancing the Tigers’ offensive output.

LSU’s scoring was rounded out by MiLaysia Fulwiley, Grace Knox, and Jada Richard, each contributing 11 points. On the opposing side, Justine Henry led Marist with 21 points, while Lexie Tarul added 11 points.

The record-breaking basket was scored by Flau’Jae Johnson, who sank a layup with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, pushing LSU’s lead to 101-40. The Tigers displayed a commanding performance throughout the game, shooting 53% from the field and converting 15 of 18 free throw attempts.

Strategic Depth and Future Prospects

Coach Mulkey utilized her entire roster, with all 11 players scoring, highlighting the team’s depth. As the Tigers continue to showcase their offensive capabilities, their sights are set on further success in the upcoming games and the NCAA tournament in the spring.

This historic achievement not only cements LSU’s place in NCAA history but also positions the team as a formidable contender in collegiate women’s basketball. With a blend of experience and emerging talent, LSU is poised to make a significant impact as the season progresses.
