Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed his desire to improve his video game rating in Madden NFL 26, where he currently holds a rating of 95. This places him fourth among quarterbacks, trailing behind Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, who both have achieved the game’s highest rating of 99, and Joe Burrow, who is rated at 97. Despite leading the Chiefs to three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, Mahomes remains optimistic about his potential for improvement.
During a press conference in St. Joseph, Missouri, Mahomes responded diplomatically to the news, stating, “I like playing Madden, so I would like to be rated higher. But I’ve got to play and showcase that stuff on the field.” He added that he believes he can elevate his rating quickly by performing at his best in the upcoming season.
Upcoming Preseason Game and New Faces
As the Chiefs prepare for their preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals on August 12, 2023, Mahomes is focused on integrating several new teammates into the offense. This includes rookie left tackle Josh Simmons, left guard Kingsley Suamataia, running back Brashard Smith, and receivers Tyquan Thornton and rookie Jalen Royals. Mahomes is expected to lead the offense for a couple of drives in the first quarter, marking a significant moment for the team as they adjust to new roles.
Reflecting on the preseason, Mahomes shared a light-hearted perspective on getting hit during games, stating, “I don’t necessarily look forward to getting hit… but it’s still a shock. I’m just excited to see where we’re at.” His enthusiasm highlights his commitment to building chemistry with his teammates ahead of the regular season.
Changes in Game Regulations
In addition to his gameplay preparations, Mahomes addressed changes in league regulations regarding the use of smelling salts during games. Recently, the NFL issued a memo prohibiting teams from providing ammonia in any form at games for the 2025 season. However, players are still allowed to bring their own. Mahomes, who does not favor using smelling salts, remarked, “I’m not really hitting people, though. I know people do use those… It’s a vital part of the game.”
As the Chiefs gear up for their 2023 season, Mahomes’ focus on both his personal performance and team dynamics will be crucial. His ability to adapt and lead will not only determine his success in Madden NFL 26 but also impact the Chiefs’ quest for another Super Bowl title.
