Manchester United has initiated discussions to secure a deal for Brazilian striker Vitor Roque, who previously struggled during his time at Barcelona. The club is reportedly preparing a bid of approximately £42 million for the player, following an initial offer of £29 million that was rejected by Palmeiras.

Currently, Manchester United is experiencing a positive run, remaining unbeaten in their last four matches under manager Ruben Amorim. Despite this success, many supporters believe the squad still requires strengthening, particularly in the attacking department. With the January transfer window approaching, the club may look to enhance its roster further.

In the summer, United invested significantly in new talent, bringing in players like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko. These additions have notably improved the team’s performance, which scored only 44 goals in the previous Premier League season. Despite these enhancements, the team appears determined to bolster its attack even more, indicating a desire for additional options upfront.

According to Brazilian news outlet O Globo, United’s revised offer for Roque could potentially lead to a breakthrough in negotiations. The young forward has found his form again with Palmeiras, scoring 13 goals in 31 appearances this season. His resurgence has put him back on the radar of the national team, with coach Carlo Ancelotti considering him for upcoming fixtures.

Roque’s journey began at Athletico Paranaense, where he showcased significant potential as a teenager. This earned him a transfer to Barcelona, where he faced challenges. With a hefty €500 million release clause, expectations were high, but he managed only two goals in La Liga before being loaned to Real Betis. His performances there improved slightly, yet he ultimately returned to Palmeiras, where the club shattered the South American transfer record to secure him for £21 million in February.

Palmeiras has stated that they would only consider negotiations if Manchester United matches or exceeds the amount they paid for Roque. However, sources at FourFourTwo suggest that United may not be inclined to meet these demands, especially given that strengthening their forward line is not currently a top priority.

As it stands, United’s attacking options are limited, with only Joshua Zirkzee serving as a backup to Sesko. Zirkzee is reportedly seeking more playing time, which could lead to his departure in January, potentially opening the door for Roque’s arrival. While the club has shown interest in players like Carlos Baleba, it seems more resources will likely be allocated to other areas of the squad as Amorim aims to build a team capable of competing for European football.

Looking ahead, Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, as the Premier League continues. The outcome of their pursuit of Roque and any potential new signings will be closely watched by fans eager to see how the club evolves under Amorim’s leadership.
