Mercedes has showcased the first images of its new Concept AMG GT Track Sport, which is currently undergoing intensive testing. This supercar is positioned as a potential successor to the AMG GT3, gearing up for high-performance racing. The camouflaged vehicle was seen testing at AMG’s facility in Affalterbach, where it successfully completed its initial test kilometers, as confirmed in a statement from the company.

While specific performance details remain undisclosed, Mercedes hinted at a promising racing future for the GT Track Sport. The company noted that the design focuses on “maximum driving dynamics, paired with intelligent lightweight construction” and a performance characteristic aimed at pushing physical limits. The statement emphasized the vehicle’s optimized weight balance, typical AMG V8 drive technology, and advanced aerodynamic architecture.

Development Insights and Future Plans

The development of the Concept AMG GT Track Sport takes place in Affalterbach, a nod to the newly established Affalterbach Racing GmbH. This division was created following the acquisition of the HWA organization, which was responsible for developing the previous Mercedes GT3 contenders, including the SLS and AMG models. In July 2024, Mercedes announced the inception of this new company alongside plans for a successor to the AMG GT3, which has been available to customers since its launch in 2016.

The new GT3 racer is expected to be ready for fully homologated racing by 2027. Recent photographs of the vehicle in action serve as a follow-up to earlier teaser images and a brief statement released in July, where Mercedes-AMG highlighted its “great expertise as a sportscar manufacturer” and hinted at an expansion of the GT series.

Mercedes is developing its third-generation GT3 racer concurrently with the road version, similar to Toyota’s approach with the GR GT3 Concept. The decision stems from the fact that the current C192 model GT, introduced in 2023, is deemed unsuitable for motorsport, as it has transitioned to a 2+2 seating configuration, differing from its predecessor’s two-seater design.

Technical specifics about the GT Track Sport remain largely unconfirmed, though it is understood to be based on a carbon-composite monocoque chassis. The only confirmed detail is that the vehicle is powered by a robust V8 engine.

Vision of Performance and Dynamics

In a recent statement, Michael Schiebe, chairman of the management board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, expressed enthusiasm about the Concept AMG GT Track Sport. He stated, “With the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, we are once again exploring the limits of what is possible.” Schiebe further emphasized the caliber of the team working on the concept, highlighting their commitment to achieving remarkable performance and driving dynamics.

He concluded with a bold vision for the future: “We have a vision and make a promise: the future will be extreme.” As Mercedes continues to push the boundaries of automotive engineering, the racing world eagerly anticipates the arrival of this new competitor on the track.
