Michael Carrick has reached an agreement to become the interim head coach of Manchester United, following a series of discussions held on Monday. Carrick, previously a captain at the club, was seen arriving at the team’s training ground on Tuesday, marking the beginning of his new role. Official confirmation of his appointment is expected later today.

In a strategic move, Carrick plans to include former England assistant manager Steve Holland as part of his coaching team. Joining them will be Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion, all of whom will contribute to the club’s efforts on the training pitch.

During this transition, Darren Fletcher, who has overseen the team’s last two matches, was offered a position in Carrick’s coaching staff. However, Fletcher has decided to return to his previous role as the head of the Under-18s team.

Carrick’s connection with Manchester United runs deep. He stepped into a caretaker role in late 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, managing the team in three matches. Under his guidance, United recorded two wins and a draw. Carrick has also worked alongside both Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho as part of the first-team coaching staff during his tenure at the club.

Most recently, Carrick managed Middlesbrough after his time at United, where he was appointed in October 2022. He led the team to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs in his inaugural season but faced dismissal the following summer.

As Carrick embarks on this new chapter with Manchester United, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how his leadership will influence the team’s performance in upcoming matches. With a wealth of experience and familiarity with the club’s culture, Carrick aims to steer United back on course in an increasingly competitive landscape.
