The Australian Junior Surfing Titles wrapped up with an exhilarating finale on March 15, 2025, at McCauley’s Beach in Wollongong. Young surfers from across the nation faced off in fierce competition, showcasing their skills in perfect three-foot waves, thanks to a surge in north-easterly swell and offshore winds.

The day marked not only a thrilling conclusion to the week-long event but also historic achievements for several young athletes. Among the standout performances was Ben Zanatta from Dee Why, who claimed the under-18 men’s championship by narrowly defeating Will Martin from the Gold Coast. This victory earned Zanatta a place on the Australian National Surfing Team, known as the Irukandjis, allowing him to compete in the upcoming 2026 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

In the women’s division, Stella Green from Queensland excelled, securing her title in the under-18 women’s final, thus also earning a spot on the Irukandjis team. The under-16 categories saw Ashton Crowley from Lennox Head win the boys’ title, while Talia Tebb from Kincumber triumphed in the girls’ event. Additionally, Lennox Lindsay from Kulburra took home the under-14 boys’ championship, and Navah Holmes from Currumbin clinched the girls’ title in the same age group.

Surfing Australia contest director Glen Elliott praised the athletes and the event’s organization, highlighting the professionalism demonstrated throughout the competition. “We’ve had four different locations, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to wrap up the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles,” Elliott stated. He noted the exceptional performances that met all judging criteria, resulting in significant scores and impressive displays of surfing talent.

Elliott further emphasized the legacy of the champions, stating, “They join an extremely prestigious list of Australian surfing royalty, including Stephanie Gilmore, Molly Picklum, Mick Fanning, and Owen Wright.”

As the waves continued to roll in, the atmosphere at McCauley’s Beach was electric, with spectators cheering for their favorite competitors. The event not only celebrated the achievements of these young surfers but also reinforced Australia’s reputation as a powerhouse in the surfing world.

This year’s Australian Junior Surfing Titles showcased not only the skill and determination of these young athletes but also the vibrant surfing culture that thrives in Australia. The champions will now prepare for the international stage, representing their country with pride at the 2026 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
