Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward sustained a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder during a recent game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Following an evaluation on Monday, Ward announced that he will not require surgery as he enters the offseason. The injury occurred in the first quarter of the Titans’ loss, when Ward fell awkwardly while attempting to score a touchdown.
Ward, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, expressed relief that the diagnosis was less severe than initially feared. “There is relief for myself, for the building and the training staff,” he stated. “They are going to get it right, continue to walk me through the process [and] what I need to do to get better and get back on the field. I just need to heal.”
During the game, Ward was injured on the Titans’ opening drive as he dove into the end zone to complete a 7-yard touchdown run, giving the team an early 7-0 lead. This marked a significant moment in the game, but it quickly turned into concern for the Titans as Ward, the only quarterback in the NFL to have played every offensive snap for his team through Week 17, was seen on the sidelines in the second half with his right arm in a sling.
Prior to the injury, Ward had participated in all 951 snaps on offense for the Titans this season. As he reflects on his recovery, he noted that while he is uncertain about the timeline for rehabilitation, it will not disrupt his offseason training schedule. “I’m working on my base of my mechanics; I’m not changing my throwing motion,” Ward explained. “So the timetable for what I have set to get to mechanically [this offseason], what I need to do, is still on schedule.”
With this positive update, the Titans look to support Ward’s recovery as he prepares to return to form ahead of the upcoming season. The focus now shifts to ensuring he follows the necessary steps for healing while maintaining his training regimen. The Titans’ coaching and medical staff will play a crucial role in guiding Ward through this process.
