Tyson Fury is set to make a return to boxing in 2026, according to his promoter, Frank Warren. The former heavyweight champion, who has held titles after significant victories against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and Deontay Wilder in 2020, announced his retirement earlier this year following two losses to the current undisputed heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk.
Warren revealed that despite Fury’s decision to step away from the sport, he has expressed a strong desire to fight again next year. “We had a couple of conversations about it, where I hadn’t for a long time. He indicated that he wants to fight next year,” Warren stated during an interview on the Queensberry Promotions YouTube channel. He emphasized that while Fury will not make a comeback this year due to personal commitments, discussions will resume later in 2025 to determine the next steps.
Fury’s proposed return has sparked discussions about potential opponents, with the name of his long-time rival, Anthony Joshua, frequently mentioned. Warren highlighted the significance of a potential match against Joshua, stating, “The obvious one is Joshua because everybody wanted to see that fight and wants to see that fight.” He acknowledged that financial incentives are a key factor for fighters at this stage in their careers, remarking, “It’s all about the money. What incentivises professional boxers is money, that’s why they’re professionals.”
The prospect of a trilogy fight with Usyk also looms large for Fury. The Ukrainian remains the only fighter to have defeated him in a professional setting. “The Usyk fights were quality fights, really good, and they were close fights,” Warren noted. He added that both bouts against Usyk were competitive and worth a second look, indicating Fury’s motivation to reclaim victory.
“If he wants to fight,” Warren concluded, expressing enthusiasm for Fury’s potential return. “I’d love to see him back in the ring, but whatever he does, he’s got to be happy.” As the boxing world awaits Fury’s next move, fans are hopeful for a thrilling chapter in the heavyweight division.
