At CES 2026, ASUS showcased its latest Chromebook offerings, including the new CM15 and CM32 models. Both devices are powered by the MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, designed to cater to different user needs. The focus of attention was on the CM15, which features a clamshell design and aims to provide a reliable computing experience for educational and professional environments.

The ASUS Chromebook CM15 stands out for its innovative materials and finishes, which distinguish it from the typical grey plastic found in many budget devices. This new tactile texture not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also improves grip, making it easier to handle. The initial impression of the device is that it carries a similar chassis to the previously released CX15 models, yet it offers a fresh approach in terms of design.

Opening the device reveals a 15.6-inch FHD display equipped with an anti-glare coating. While brightness is estimated to be around 300 nits, the matte finish effectively mitigates reflections, ensuring that the display remains clear and vibrant. This practical choice in display technology is particularly beneficial for users in bright office settings or schools.

Under the hood, the CM15 is equipped with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This configuration is expected to facilitate smooth multitasking and handle standard web-based applications effectively. The device also includes a range of connectivity options, featuring two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, a headphone/microphone jack, and a full-size HDMI port, making it versatile for various uses.

A notable feature highlighted in ASUS’s press release is the new tool-free latching battery system. This innovative design simplifies battery maintenance, which is particularly advantageous for managing large fleets of devices in educational institutions. The CM15 is also built to meet the U.S. MIL-STD-810H durability standards, incorporating recycled plastics and wear-resistant paint, which reinforces its design for longevity.

Although ASUS has yet to announce official pricing or availability dates, the early indications suggest that the Chromebook CM15 is poised to be a dependable and durable option for users requiring a larger screen and long-lasting battery life without incurring a premium cost. The combination of robust performance and thoughtful design makes it a compelling choice for students and professionals alike.
