bitwarden-enhances-security-features-with-new-premium-pricing

Bitwarden has rolled out significant updates to its Premium and Family plans, aimed at enhancing credential security and educating users about online threats. This initiative responds to evolving cyber threats, which increasingly target users rather than just relying on weak password protection.

The recent enhancements include improved vault health alerts, password strength coaching, increased secure storage, and advanced phishing protections. These features are designed to provide users with a more robust defense against cyber attacks while also promoting best practices for password management.

New Security Features and Pricing Structure

One of the key updates is the introduction of credential vault health alerts. Users will now receive notifications about reused, exposed, or weak passwords. Bitwarden will recommend immediate actions to mitigate these risks. When updating passwords, the platform will also provide coaching on creating stronger and more unique passwords.

Attachment storage has seen a significant upgrade, now offering up to 5GB of secure space for storing important documents and backup codes. Additionally, the capacity for storing two-factor authentication (2FA) methods has increased. Users can now save up to 10 authentication methods, which include hardware keys, native biometrics, and passkeys.

Bitwarden has also introduced a new phishing blocker tool. Although details on its specific capabilities remain limited, the company indicates that it will “proactively identify and block malicious websites before they can steal credentials.”

While these enhancements offer better protection, they come with a price increase. The Individual plan will rise from $10 per year to $19.80, translating to an increase from less than $1 per month to $1.65 per month. The Family plan will see an increase from $40 to $47.88 annually, or from $3.33 per month to $3.99 per month.

Implementation Timeline and Discounts for Existing Customers

The new pricing structure will take effect at the next renewal date of users, with a 15-day notification period prior to the change. In a bid to retain existing customers, Bitwarden is offering a one-time 25% discount on the first year of renewal for current Premium members and some early Family plan customers from 2019.

These updates reflect Bitwarden’s commitment to providing comprehensive security solutions tailored to modern threats. As one of the leading password managers, its ongoing enhancements are expected to bolster user confidence in managing their online credentials securely.
