dji-launches-neo-2-drone-with-enhanced-features-and-gesture-control

DJI has officially introduced the Neo 2, a new version of its compact selfie drone, featuring significant advancements over the previous model. The launch is currently exclusive to China, with a global rollout anticipated to begin on November 13, 2023. Weighing in at 151 grams, the Neo 2 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, enhancing its capabilities for aerial photography and videography.

The Neo 2 boasts upgraded safety features such as omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, which uses forward-facing LiDAR and downward infrared sensors. This technology allows the drone to automatically detect and avoid obstacles, making it significantly less likely to crash. The fully enclosed propeller guards further enhance safety during operation.

In terms of performance, the Neo 2 has improved its following speed to 12 m/s (27 mph) and can maintain stable hovering in winds of up to 24 mph. A notable addition is the gesture control feature, enabling users to manipulate the drone’s position and distance with simple hand movements. Additionally, a small onboard display provides essential information about the current flight mode.

DJI continues to support its existing range of controllers, including the RC-N3 remote, motion controllers, and the Goggles N3 headset, allowing for more advanced flying experiences. The camera has also seen improvements, with a 1/2-inch sensor paired with a dual-axis gimbal for smoother footage. The Neo 2 can now capture 4K video at 60 fps, and in manual mode, it can achieve up to 100 fps. The wider field of view, enhanced low-light performance, and new Intelligent Flight Modes such as Cycling Follow, SelfieShot, and MasterShots contribute to its versatility.

Internal storage capacity has increased to 49 GB, and the drone is powered by a 1,606 mAh battery that offers up to 19 minutes of flight time. The pricing for the Neo 2 starts at 1,499 CNY (A$211) for the base model, with bundles that include extra batteries, charging cases, and controllers priced up to 3,699 CNY (A$521).

Despite receiving FCC certification in the United States, DJI faces regulatory challenges that could delay the Neo 2’s availability in American and Australian markets. Customs inspections and pending security assessments remain obstacles to a swift global launch. As DJI continues to innovate in the drone market, the Neo 2 stands out as a significant step forward in user-friendly aerial technology.
