DJI has introduced its latest smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 8, which features enhanced tracking capabilities and ergonomic design aimed at mobile creators. Equipped with 360° horizontal pan rotation and support for Apple’s DockKit, this new stabiliser aims to elevate the filming experience for users engaged in vlogging, livestreaming, and cinematic projects.
Weighing only 370 grams, the Osmo Mobile 8 is designed for extended use. Its 360° rotation enables users to capture seamless panoramic shots and low-angle footage, while a redesigned grip enhances comfort during long shooting sessions. The gimbal also includes a Multifunctional Module that offers adjustable fill lighting with eight brightness and colour levels, as well as a built-in microphone receiver compatible with DJI Mic 3, Mic 2, and Mic Mini. This module attaches magnetically and supports hand-gesture control for tracking subjects, recording, or adjusting framing.
A significant advancement this year is the integration of Apple DockKit, which allows iPhone users to access Apple’s native subject-tracking technology across more than 200 compatible apps, including the default Camera app. This functionality, combined with DJI’s ActiveTrack 7.0 via the Mimo app, empowers the gimbal to effectively track people, pets, or objects, ensuring they remain in frame even during rapid movements or in crowded environments.
For the first time, the Osmo Mobile 8 can also track both cats and dogs, making it particularly appealing for pet owners and content creators looking to capture spontaneous moments. The device features a built-in extension rod and tripod, eliminating the need for additional accessories. Furthermore, its impressive 10-hour battery life and phone-charging capability make it suitable for all-day shooting.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is now available for purchase through DJI’s online store and authorized retailers in Australia for A$219. Optional accessories include the OM Magnetic Quick-Release Mount, Grip Tripod, and the DJI Mic lineup. Additionally, DJI offers DJI Care Refresh plans for the Osmo Mobile 8, which cover accidental damage, collisions, and water exposure, allowing for up to four replacements over two years.
