The highly anticipated 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 has officially launched in Australia, marking the arrival of the premium automaker’s new flagship roadster. Priced from $463,900 before on-road costs, the SL680 stands as the most expensive model currently available from Mercedes-Benz in Australia, trailing only the Mercedes-Maybach S680 limousine, which begins at $573,192.
This latest addition to the Maybach lineup is positioned to surpass the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 SUV, priced at $409,900, and the electric Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 at $331,600. The SL680, which combines thrilling performance with lavish luxury, was initially revealed in August 2024 and confirmed for the Australian market in October 2024.
Performance and Luxury Features
At the core of the SL680 is a robust 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 engine, delivering an impressive 430 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque. This powertrain enables the luxury roadster to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 4.1 seconds. While the performance remains a highlight, Mercedes-Benz has incorporated Maybach-specific chassis tuning to enhance ride comfort and refinement, ensuring a smooth driving experience without compromising agility.
The SL680 is equipped with advanced technologies including Active Ride Control suspension damping and rear-axle steering, which allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 2.5 degrees. This feature improves both low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability, contributing to a superior driving experience. The powertrain is coupled with a Speedshift MCT 9G nine-speed automatic transmission, which features a dedicated Maybach drive program, complemented by dynamic engine mounts and an electronically controlled locking rear differential for optimal handling.
Distinctive Design and Customization Options
The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 distinguishes itself with unique exterior design elements tailored to the Maybach brand. It features a distinctive Maybach grille adorned with vertical struts and integrated lettering, as well as a striking Obsidian Black painted bonnet. Buyers can choose between 21-inch forged alloy wheels in a five-hole design or an optional multi-spoke layout.
Standard paint options for the SL680 include Garnet Red and Opalite White Magno, both selected to enhance the black bonnet treatment. For those seeking additional exclusivity, more than 50 optional Manufaktur Exclusive paint finishes are available, including a unique pixelated pattern created using PixelPaint technology.
Inside, the SL680 continues the theme of opulence, featuring Nappa leather upholstery and a bespoke Manufaktur Dinamica microfibre roof liner. The sports seats showcase an elegant floral upholstery pattern embossed with Maybach emblems, while the multifunction steering wheel combines wood and leather finishes for a luxurious touch.
A state-of-the-art 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment touchscreen takes centre stage on the dashboard, offering augmented-reality navigation and 5G connectivity for digital services. Additional features include wireless smartphone charging, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, and a customizable 64-colour ambient lighting system.
The SL680 also boasts comprehensive safety features with the Driving Assistance Package Plus, which includes a 360-degree camera and Memory Parking Assist, enhancing convenience for drivers. Comfort is further elevated with climatised multicontour front seats equipped with massage functions.
Optional extras available for the SL680 include the Energizing Package Plus and Guard 360° Vehicle Protection Plus for heightened security monitoring.
