Sony is preparing to unveil its latest true wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM6, with a launch anticipated within weeks. Leaks indicate that pre-orders will commence on February 12, 2024, and general availability is expected starting February 23, 2024. According to the French deals site Dealabs, the new earbuds are likely to retail for US$329 (approximately A$495), which is about US$30 more than the previous model, the WF-1000XM5, at its debut. In Europe, the price is estimated at €299 (around A$520), slightly lower than the XM5’s launch price.
The credibility of these leaks has been bolstered by The Walkman Blog, which identified listings for WF-1000XM6 ear tips on parts supplier Encompass, suggesting shipments may begin on February 27. This timeline aligns with the expected product launch, heightening anticipation among consumers.
Setting the Standard in Noise-Cancelling Technology
Sony’s WF-1000XM series has established itself as a benchmark in the realm of noise-cancelling earbuds. The current model, the WF-1000XM5, remains a top contender in the market despite its release in mid-2023. Sony typically refreshes its product lineup approximately every two years, making a release in early 2026 for the next iteration plausible.
The upcoming XM6 will be available in two colors: black and silver, mirroring the options offered with the WF-1000XM5. This launch will place the XM6 in direct competition with other high-end products, notably the Technics EAH-AZ100 and Apple’s AirPods Pro series, both of which are well-regarded in the premium earbuds segment.
As the technology landscape evolves, consumers eagerly await the new features and enhancements that the WF-1000XM6 will bring. With its proven track record in sound quality and noise cancellation, Sony aims to maintain its leadership position in the audio market.
