UPDATE: The countdown is on for the highly anticipated Great Mascot Race at the WA Day Festival on Saturday, November 22, 2025. This year, 17 iconic mascots are gearing up for an exhilarating showdown that promises to be the most unpredictable event on the WA sporting calendar!
Fans can expect fur flying, feathers flapping, and foam heads bobbing as mascots compete in a wild 40-metre sprint starting at 12 PM sharp at Burswood Park. The reigning champion, Rick the Rock from the West Coast Eagles, aims to defend his title after dethroning Chancey the Lotterywest Lotto Ball last year. Will he maintain his crown?
This year’s competition features a stellar lineup of challengers, including sporting legends like Wilbur the Wildcat, Johnny Docker, and Maali from the West Coast Fever. Local favorites Fat Cat, Rex the Quokka, and Buzzy from Muzz Buzz will also be racing for glory, making the stakes even higher!
Scott Jones, chair of Celebrate WA, emphasized the importance of this event, saying, “The Mascot Race is always a crowd favorite at WA Day, capturing the energy and community spirit that makes this celebration so special.” He urges everyone to gather at the Lotterywest Community Hub at noon to cheer on their favorite mascots.
The WA Day Festival, supported by BHP, the WA Government, and Lotterywest, is not just a race; it’s a celebration of community and camaraderie. Patrons are encouraged to utilize public transport to avoid congestion and fully enjoy the festivities.
As excitement builds for this year’s race, fans are reminded to mark their calendars and prepare for a memorable day filled with fun, laughter, and fierce competition. Be part of the action and witness the spectacle that is the Great Mascot Race!
