Actor and presenter Alan Cumming has suggested that former President Donald Trump should consider participating in the reality competition series, The Traitors US. Cumming, who hosts the show on Peacock, made this lighthearted proposal following the program’s recent win for Best Reality Competition Program at the 77th Primetime Emmys held on September 15, 2023, in Downtown Los Angeles.

The premise of The Traitors US involves a group of contestants, some designated as “Traitors” and others as “Faithful.” The Faithful must identify the Traitors while completing challenges to add to a prize pot. The recent season featured a total pot of $205,000, which was ultimately split among four contestants. During the Emmys press room event, Cumming humorously remarked that Trump, at age 79, might earn more on the show than his current presidential salary of $400,000 per year.

Cumming’s comments sparked laughter, as he noted, “I’m sure our president would be very good on the show. I’m sure he’d have a little chaos and turmoil and treachery.” This reflects the dynamic nature of the competition, where deception and strategy are key components.

Despite this playful suggestion, Cumming has previously expressed reservations about the idea of Trump or other controversial figures participating in the show. In an interview with Vanity Fair in January 2023, he stated, “It’s not appetizing to me. I think that is too soon—far too soon.” Cumming emphasized the need for a certain level of distance from toxicity, suggesting that some public figures carry too much baggage to fit the show’s ethos.

The second season of The Traitors US featured notable contestants, including John Bercow, the former Speaker of the House of Commons in the UK. Cumming’s hosting debut came with the show’s launch in early 2023, and he has since become a recognizable face for the program.

In addition to his thoughts on Trump, Cumming shared ideas for future iterations of the show. He expressed interest in an all-stars version, where previous contestants could return to the filming location at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. He remarked, “You don’t necessarily have to be a winner,” indicating that fan-favorite participants, such as drag queen Peppermint, could be invited back for special appearances.

Cumming also suggested a crossover event with RuPaul’s Drag Race, envisioning a version of The Traitors featuring drag queens. He concluded, “Wouldn’t that be funny? Me and RuPaul could duke it out.”

As The Traitors US continues to garner attention and accolades, Cumming’s blend of humor and genuine interest in the show’s evolution keeps fans engaged. The potential for future seasons, whether featuring political figures or beloved contestants, remains a topic of lively discussion among viewers and critics alike.
