BREAKING: Gary West has officially been inducted into the Albury-Wodonga Business Hall of Fame, a prestigious recognition announced during the 2025 Albury-Wodonga Business Awards on August 15, 2025, at the Albury Entertainment Centre. This event, attended by approximately 400 guests, also celebrated Happy Staffy as the most outstanding business.

Mr. West, 63, expressed his gratitude, stating he is “overwhelmed but grateful and humbled” by this honor. A lifelong resident of the region, he has dedicated over 40 years to accountancy, investment, and community service, making a significant impact on the local economy.

Born in Cobram and raised in Eskdale, Mr. West learned the value of hard work early on, helping his parents run the Eskdale Hotel during a bustling time in the area. He later pursued commerce at Melbourne University, which paved the way for his long-standing career at what is now known as Findex. Over the years, he has held key leadership roles, including national head of property syndication services and head of training and people development.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. West highlighted the evolution of accountancy, emphasizing the importance of interpreting financial data for clients. “Once you get past the technical skills, you’ve got to interpret what they mean,” he stated. His proactive investment strategies have included significant stakes in Hungry Jack’s and Stacks of Snacks.

Mr. West’s contributions extend beyond business. He has actively engaged in community initiatives, notably raising over $1.6 million for the new Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), which far exceeded expectations. His involvement with local business chambers and advisory committees has solidified his reputation as a community leader.

The night was also marked by challenges, including a fire that destroyed his Hungry Jack’s restaurant in January 2010. “The roof was sitting on the floor,” he recounted, reflecting on the chaos that ensued. However, Mr. West’s resilience and commitment to his team ensured that everyone was evacuated safely.

Albury Business Connect general manager Glen Robinson noted that this year’s awards attracted a record number of participants, showcasing the pride and passion within the local business community. “They want to be recognized by their community,” he said, highlighting the growing engagement among local enterprises.

As the Albury-Wodonga Business Awards conclude, attention now turns to the future of local entrepreneurship and community initiatives that continue to thrive, driven by dedicated individuals like Gary West. His story serves as an inspiration, reminding others of the profound impact one person can have on both business and community.
