Alex Barbas Out and Back Run - 7,800km Run From Sydney To Perth And Back To Raise $780,000 For Starlight
UPDATE: Alex Barbas, a dedicated runner and property worker from Perth, is embarking on an extraordinary challenge: a 7,800km run from Sydney to Perth and back to raise $780,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The run is set to kick off on September 1, with the goal of reaching Perth by mid-October.
Barbas aims to raise $100 per kilometre, which would help support over 20,000 sick children through activities provided by the charity, which he has volunteered for since 2016. The urgency of this mission is underscored by the fact that he has already raised nearly $11,000 in donations.
The 33-year-old will rely on an intensive regimen, including consuming 9,000 calories a day and going through seven pairs of shoes throughout the journey. “I can run 80km, but trying to raise $780,000, I cannot do it alone,” Barbas stated, emphasizing the need for community support.
He plans to pause in Perth to visit his parents and enjoy a hearty pasta dish before making the return trip to Sydney, aiming to arrive in time for his brother’s bucks party by the first week of December. As excitement builds, Barbas shared, “I’m getting more excited as the days come closer,” reflecting on the support he’s received from local caravan parks and accommodations.
Barbas will be accompanied by a support team of four, including a medic and a videographer, to ensure his safety and document the journey. “I need people to tell their brother, sister, mate, colleague, whoever it is, and really get the exposure behind the cause,” he urged, calling for widespread community engagement to meet his ambitious fundraising goal.
