UPDATE: Allora’s iconic Wikner Ford Special is en route to Maroubra today for a historic celebration that marks the 100th anniversary of the opening event at the legendary Maroubra Olympic Speedway. Proud owner Doug Partington and his son Bruce are set to arrive on Saturday, where they will be warmly welcomed by members of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2025, will take place at Coral Sea Park, a site within the original boundaries of the infamous speedway, which was once dubbed Australia’s version of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Only one racing car from the inaugural 1925 event remains—Doug’s very own Wikner Ford Special.

Maroubra Speedway, intended to be a premier racing venue, became notorious as the “Killer TRACK” due to its design flaws, leading to its closure in the early 1930s. Today, it thrives as a bustling beach suburb of Sydney. The Wikner Ford Special will serve as the guest of honor at the centenary celebration, an event steeped in nostalgia and community pride.

Doug Partington proudly claims that his car is the only one to have lapped both the Maroubra and Indianapolis Speedways, adding a unique chapter to its storied history. After the festivities, Doug and Bruce plan to return the Wikner to Allora, where it will take up residence in a newly established glass pavilion at the Allora Sports Museum.

This celebration not only honors a remarkable piece of automotive history but also brings together the community to reflect on their shared heritage. As the countdown to the event continues, excitement is building among car enthusiasts and locals alike.

Stay tuned for more updates as the celebration unfolds and the Wikner Ford Special makes its historic appearance!
