bacchus-marsh-and-ballan-pools-may-extend-opening-hours-soon

UPDATE: Moorabool Council is actively considering an extension of opening hours for the outdoor pools in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan, following a report tabled during the recent council meeting. This potential change comes in response to an urgent request made at the December 4, 2023, meeting.

The proposed increase would allow the pools to open earlier on Thursdays and Fridays during school terms, specifically when temperatures reach 23 degrees Celsius by 10 a.m. Currently, the pools operate from 3:30 PM to 7 PM on these days under similar weather conditions. This adjustment could lead to an additional 18 sessions per pool throughout the season, significantly enhancing community access to swimming opportunities.

According to Moorabool officers, the financial implications of this change have been assessed. If implemented, the increased operational hours would incur an estimated additional cost of $1,000 per day for each pool, necessitating an extra budget allocation of $36,000 for the proposed expansion.

If the council approves this initiative, a two-year trial period is recommended, coinciding with the next policy review scheduled for 2027. This trial aims to assess the viability of the extended hours and their impact on the community.

Local residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as the council deliberates on this significant change that could enhance recreational opportunities for families and individuals alike. The results of this decision could reshape how the community utilizes its outdoor pools, especially during the warmer months.

As the council’s discussions progress, community members are urged to share their thoughts and experiences related to pool access, highlighting the potential benefits of increased hours for local health and well-being. Keep an eye out for further announcements from the Moorabool Council regarding this developing story.
