UPDATE: The popular bakery, Beca Bakes Bottega, is set to officially open its new location in the heart of Uralla on January 10, 2026. After a whirlwind renovation process, co-owners Rebecca Walker and Nick Monk are eager to welcome customers to their upgraded premises on Bridge Street, previously occupied by Michael’s Cafe.
The couple received the keys to the new space just hours before New Year’s Eve, prompting a race against time to prepare for their grand opening. This move represents an exciting expansion for the local bakery, which began as a small operation when Walker baked for a local cafe, eventually transitioning to wholesale production in a separate facility.
With this new location, Beca Bakes Bottega will not only continue to offer its beloved sweet treats and coffee but will also introduce plated meals for breakfast and lunch. “We’re looking to create a vibrant space for both daytime dining and evening entertainment,” Monk shared. Plans are in place for after-hours events, utilizing the bakery’s beautiful garden area for functions and gatherings.
The interior decor is designed to reflect the building’s historic charm, originally constructed as the Bank of NSW. Walker, a former commercial interior designer, has infused the space with elegance, featuring a striking chandelier, vintage black and white photographs, and unique green marble tables. The bakery also boasts a cozy seating capacity of 35 indoors and 40 outdoors, ideal for enjoying meals in the fresh air.
Among the bakery’s quirky features is their unofficial mascot, Creepy Bob, a life-size statue purchased for just $1. This character, originally from a butcher in Maitland, has become a beloved figure in the community, often surprising customers as they enter the bakery. “He’s been known to give customers quite the fright,” Monk admitted, recalling early mornings when he’d jump at the sight of Bob in the dark.
As excitement builds for the opening, locals and tourists alike are anticipated to flock to the bakery, eager to experience what Walker and Monk have created. The introduction of a retail space in the central business district signifies a new chapter for Beca Bakes Bottega and an invigorating addition to Uralla’s culinary scene.
Eyes are now on the bakery as they prepare for their grand opening event. Expect to see a community celebration as Walker and Monk unveil their new offerings and showcase the charm of their revamped location. Stay tuned for more updates as the opening approaches!
