BREAKING: Belle Morton has been awarded the title of dux at Kerang Technical High School for 2025, achieving an impressive ATAR of 80.85. The announcement, made just moments ago, highlights her remarkable academic journey and dedication.

Morton, who was caught off guard by the news during a call from her Year 12 coordinator, expressed her surprise, stating, “I was pretty shocked because I definitely didn’t expect to get it.” Her unexpected achievement has made headlines as she reflects on her hard work and the balance she maintained throughout her challenging final year.

Despite not setting a goal to become dux, Morton aimed to reach an ATAR of 80. She successfully balanced her studies with commitments to netball and ballet, emphasizing the importance of not succumbing to burnout. “I tried not to get burnt out and study too hard as such,” she shared. “I tried to still do my sport and get together with friends while studying hard.”

Morton described her fluctuating confidence as exam results rolled in. “Sometimes I’d think, ‘Oh yeah, I reckon I can get it,’ and then other times I’d feel the opposite,” she admitted. Her favorite subjects included Legal Studies, English, and Health, and she credited her support network for her success: “My family was really great, and I had a good group of friends. We kind of helped each other through the year.”

She also praised the staff at Kerang Tech for their unwavering support, saying, “They were always very happy to help and sit down with you whenever you needed it.” This emphasis on community highlights the collaborative spirit that bolstered her academic success.

Looking ahead, Morton plans to pursue a career in teaching, with Deakin University in Geelong as her preferred choice. “I had a moment when I was teaching my two little sisters during remote learning and thought, ‘Oh, I could actually do this as a career,’” she revealed.

As she prepares for the next stage of her education, Morton offered valuable advice to current Year 11 and 12 students: “Work hard, but definitely balance out your life.” Her message resonates widely, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a well-rounded life amid academic pressures.

The recognition of Belle Morton as dux not only showcases her academic excellence but also serves as an inspiration for students everywhere who are navigating similar challenges. Her story is a reminder that success is achievable with determination, balance, and a strong support system.
